Wind-tunnel experiments on atmospheric heavy gas dispersion: Metrological aspects

نویسندگان

چکیده

We propose a new experimental protocol to investigate the atmospheric dispersion of dense gas in wind-tunnel experiments. Simultaneous measurements concentration and velocity are performed by coupling flame ionisation detector (FID) hot-wire anemometer (HWA), whose probes located sufficiently close each other so that respective correspond same sampling volume. The heavy emission consists mixture air, carbon dioxide, ethane. Carbon dioxide is used as buoyant agent, ethane tracer, its being detected FID. In this context, main metrological issue setup concerns response FID HWA different proportions two gases mixture. Notably, presence affects linear FID, which can attain saturation level, well HWA, due varying density gas. This be compensated determining non-linear calibration curve determine instantaneous fluid density, apply time-dependent correction response. To analyse performances coupled HWA–FID system we realised experiments tracer turbulent boundary layer. estimate mass fluxes through sections downwind source enlightens reliability results, show within negatively plume accurate those passive scalar plume.

Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Applications in Wind Turbine Siting

Atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnels (ABLWTs) have been used for 40 years to simulate the interaction of the wind and earth in the lowest few hundred meters of the atmosphere. ABLWTs are well-suited for investigating flow in complex terrain and have different strengths and weaknesses than numerical modeling. There are a wide variety of applications, including performing wind resource assessm...

Wind tunnel experiments of tracer dispersion downwind from a small-scale physical model of a landfill

Wind tunnel experiments have been carried out on a small-scale physical model of a municipal waste landfill (MWL) in the CRIACIV (Research Centre of Building Aerodynamics and Wind Engineering) “environmental” wind tunnel in Prato (Italy). The MWL model simulates a landfill whose surface is higher than the surrounding surface, applying a 1:200 scaling factor. Modelling an area source such as lan...

Wind tunnel experiments on the effects of tillage ridge features on wind erosion horizontal fluxes

In order to parameterize horizontal soil fluxes produced by wind over tillage ridges, eight-ridge configurations composed of sandy soil and exhibiting ridge heights to ridge spacing (RH/RS) ratios ranging from 0.18 to 0.38 were experimented in a wind tunnel. These experiments are used to develop a parameterization of the horizontal fluxes over tillage ridged surfaces based only on the geometric...

Wind tunnel measurements for dispersion modelling of vehicle wakes

7 Wind tunnel measurements downwind of reduced scale car models have been made to study the 8 wake regions in detail, test the usefulness of existing vehicle wake models, and draw key 9 information needed for dispersion modelling in vehicle wakes. The experiments simulated a car 10 moving in still air. This is achieved by (i) the experimental characterisation of the flow, turbulence 11 and conc...
